Solution automatically balances energy savings with road safety
Road safety will always be the priority, but there is scope for data driven adaptive interventions to help cut energy use, carbon outputs and overall costs of streetlighting on main road routes.
Live traffic information is key to allowing lighting to be adapted, according to the needs of vehicle circulation, when managing streetlights on the main road arteries of a city.
This is exactly what Norfolk County Council (NCC) wanted to do and Urban Control designed the right solution for them. Urban Control integrated traffic flow monitors installed along the roadways selected by NCC for a small trial to experiment with the logic to adapt streetlighting levels in real time according to the flow of traffic measured.
