Managing streetlights in residential areas for energy usage can be easily done based on reasonable assumptions like that less people are outdoors in the middle of the night, but when it comes to managing streetlights on the main road arteries of a city, this is a totally different ball game. Energy consumption objectives cannot trump road safety and for that purpose you need to have live traffic information to adapt the street lighting according to the needs of vehicles circulation.

This is exactly what a County Council wanted to do and Urban Control designed the right solution for them. Urban Control integrated traffic flow monitors installed along the roadways selected by the Council and introduced the logic to adapt street lighting levels in real time according to the flow of traffic measured.
